Football Falls to Southwestern

The Rhodes College Lynx showed grit and balance in their home game at Crain Field on Saturday afternoon, but a late surge was not enough as they fell 35–22 to the Southwestern Pirates. Despite the loss, the Lynx put together one of their most complete offensive performances of the season, totaling 350 yards of offense and three touchdowns.

After falling behind early, the Lynx broke through just before halftime with a six-play, 65-yard drive capped by Robert Daniel's one-yard touchdown run. Daniel led the Rhodes rushing attack with 58 yards and a score on 11 carries, averaging 5.3 yards per attempt.

The Lynx carried that momentum into the second half as Logan Ahern connected on a 32-yard field goal midway through the third quarter to cut the deficit to 23–10. Later, quarterback Brennan Keim sparked the passing game with a 55-yard strike to Dunaven Kurak early in the fourth quarter. Keim finished the day 21-of-32 for 225 yards and two touchdowns, spreading the ball effectively among nine different receivers.

Rhodes continued to push the tempo, and with under seven minutes remaining, Keim found Calvin Welker for a six-yard touchdown to bring the Lynx within 13 points. Welker had four receptions for 44 yards, while Kurak's deep catch led the team with 66 receiving yards. John Hampton III and Sani Bartlett also made key plays to keep drives alive, combining for over 60 receiving yards.

Defensively, Jay Davis led the team with 10 total tackles, while Lawrence Watts added eight stops and a tackle for loss. Chyco Williams provided a spark with a 22-yard interception return, and Blake Coogan recovered a first-quarter fumble to halt an early Pirate drive.

With the result, Rhodes moves to 1–8 overall (0–6 SAA), while Southwestern improves to 4–5. The Lynx will wrap up their 2025 season at home next week as they take on Centre College in their season finale for senior day.
