The Rhodes College football team showed grit and offensive rhythm in a competitive effort against Maryville College, ultimately falling 42–22 on Saturday afternoon. Despite the loss, the Lynx offense produced 327 total yards, highlighted by multiple explosive plays through the air and a relentless second-quarter push.
After falling behind early, the Lynx offense found its footing midway through the second quarter. Quarterback Taylor Haas connected with Sani Bartlett for a 36-yard touchdown strike, putting Rhodes on the board. Haas continued his strong day through the air finding Dero Walker for a 28-yard score just before halftime to make it 28–15. Haas finished the day 27 of 45 through the air for 237 yards and two touchdowns.
Rhodes carried that momentum into the second half. The Lynx opened the third quarter with a 38-yard, 11-play drive capped by Jelani Lovett's one-yard touchdown run, cutting the deficit to 35–22. Lovett was a key factor in the rushing attack, adding 16 yards and the lone rushing score of the game.
Bartlett led all Rhodes receivers with 63 yards and a touchdown on five catches, while Walker added 38 yards and another score. Austin Smith (44 yards) and John Hampton III (34 yards) also made crucial contributions to the passing game. On the ground, Caden Perkins and Jonathan Hampton combined for 62 yards, keeping the Maryville defense honest.
Defensively, the Lynx were led by Lawrence Watts, who tallied 11 total tackles, while Alpha Diallo and Henry Walter each added six. Jay Davis recorded the team's lone sack and Chyco Williams snagged an interception to halt a Maryville drive.
Rhodes showed excellent ball control, possessing the ball for over 37 minutes compared to Maryville's 22. The Lynx also converted three fourth downs and compiled 19 first downs in a determined offensive performance.
With the result, Rhodes moves to 1–7 overall (0–5 SAA). The Lynx will return home next weekend for their matchup against Southwestern, kicking off from Crain Field at 12pm.
