Game 2 Recap: Rhodes College vs. Centre College
Â
An exciting victory for Rhodes Women's Soccer against another huge rival: the Centre Colonels on Sunday October 5, 2025, at Rhodes' soccer field. A 1-0 success for the lynx which is their first win against the Colonels in 11 years. A great end to a hard weekend for the Lynx!
Â
Key Performances
Â
The women showed solid composure after going 0-1 once Sewanee scored in the 12
th minute of the game. The Lynx responded with possession, physicality, and togetherness that led them to balance the score in the 41
st minute to make it a 1-1 game. Junior
Ellie Lawrence drew a foul just past half field, which allowed center defender
Abby Bell to take a free kick, placing the ball right around the PK spot which senior
Taylor Theofiledes put in the back of the net with a header. Bell has been making a name for herself this season as a consistent starter and an impactful center back for the Lynx by demonstrating composure on the ball and ability to create scoring opportunities, even from the back. Overall, the Lynx dominated the tigers, but ultimately it ended in a draw.Â
Â
Rhodes and Centre had a bit more of a scrappy match, with possession going back and forth. An early goal in the third minute of the game from Sophomore
Maddie Carter put the Lynx in the lead which they managed to maintain for the rest of the game. Carter has made a name for herself this season with this being her fifth goal along with one assist so far this year. While the Lynx battled to stay in the lead, it came down to the 87
th minute when a foul was called on Rhodes in their own defensive 18, allowing Centre the chance to tie the game up with a PK. Senior goalkeeper
Olivia Barfield saved the bottom left shot, allowing the Lynx a victory against the Colonels for the first time in 11 years for the Rhodes Women's Soccer program. Barfield has established herself as a well-deserved starter throughout these last four years as she provides a calming presence on the field when things get tough.
Â
Overall, a successful weekend for the Lynx as they attempt to prove to the SAA that they are here to compete.Â
