The Rhodes College football team put together several strong drives and standout individual performances on Saturday afternoon, but fell 54–14 to Berry College at Valhalla Stadium.
Quarterback Taylor Haas led the Lynx through the air, completing 22 of 33 passes for 271 yards and a touchdown. Haas connected with Liam Sitz for a four-yard score in the second quarter that capped a 65-yard drive and put Rhodes on the board. Haas spread the ball to a deep group of receivers, including Austin Smith, who led the team with 61 yards on five catches, and John Hampton III, who added 49 yards on three receptions, including a long 36-yard grab.
The ground game found its rhythm in the fourth quarter, when Jelani Lovett capped a 75-yard drive with a two-yard touchdown run behind strong blocking from the offensive line. Lovett finished with 28 rushing yards and added 31 more through the air.
Defensively, Lawrence Watts paced the Lynx with six solo tackles, while Jonathan Torres added five total stops and a pass breakup. Quinton Brooks Jr. recorded a tackle for loss, and Hollis Strawbridge contributed three tackles from the secondary.
The Lynx showed efficiency in the passing game, racking up 274 yards through the air and converting 6 of 13 third-down attempts. Grady Jones also provided consistency in the punting game, averaging 41.4 yards per kick.
Rhodes moves to 1–3 overall and will look to bounce back next week when they return home to face Millsaps College on Saturday, October 11th at 1:00 p.m. at Crain Field.
