Rhodes Holds Off Hendrix in Double-Overtime Thriller

On January 8, Rhodes College secured a hard-fought victory over Hendrix in a double-overtime battle at Grove Gymnasium in Conway, Arkansas. The win marked a strong start to SAA play for Rhodes, who improved to 3-10 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

Key Performers: 

Avery Marsh-  32 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists. Played all 50 minutes, shot 10-26 from the field, 5-11 from three, and 7-7 from the free-throw line. Marsh was clutch in overtime, scoring 11 points across the two extra periods, including a pivotal three-pointer in the second overtime.

A'niya Lagarde- 15 points, 16 rebounds, 2 assists. Dominated in the paint, grabbing 16 rebounds (11 defensive) to limit Hendrix's second-chance opportunities. Lagarde was instrumental in overtime, helping seal the win with her rebounding and physicality.

Giana Vlahakos- 10 points, 15 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks, 2 steals. Provided a strong interior presence on both ends of the floor, recording a double-double and stepping up defensively with key blocks and rebounds in critical moments.

Mackenzie McKown- 7 points, 3 rebounds, 1 block, 1 steal. Came off the bench to deliver a crucial three-pointer in the first overtime, giving Rhodes a much-needed boost during a tight stretch.

Taylor Dupree- 5 points, 8 rebounds, 5 steals. Energized the team with her defensive effort, recording 5 steals and disrupting Hendrix's offensive flow. Her intensity on both ends was vital to Rhodes' success.


The Lynx struggled offensively in regulation, shooting under 20% in both the first and fourth quarters. But when the game was on the line, Rhodes found their rhythm. In the second overtime, the Lynx shot an outstanding 83.3% from the field, with Marsh and Lagarde leading the charge. Rhodes went a perfect 5-5 from the free-throw line in the final minutes to ice the game coming away with a 77-71 victory.
