Lynx Fall in Conference Opener

The Rhodes College Field Hockey team were back on the road to Danville this weekend. On September 28, 2024, they played their first CFHC Conference play against the Centre College Colonels. After a rigorous contest between tough opponents the Lynx fell in a 0-1 loss to Centre College. This competitive match showcased the skill and hard work of both teams. Unfortunately, the game against the Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitters was cancelled due to weather inclement. We send our support to LMU field hockey and all those affected.

RECAP: RHODES VS. Centre College

This opening conference game was a true test for both teams. The Lynx and the Colonels played with relentless fire and competitive back and forth play through the entire match. At 18:55 Centre's Abby Brainard scored the game's only goal from a penalty stroke. Rhodes fought hard to recover, with intense defense and offensive opportunities, they were unable to find the equalizer. Ultimately the Lynx fell 0-1.

  • Centre College: 11 total shots (8 on goal), 3 saves, 6 penalty corners.

Key Weekend Performances:

  • Reece Kugler: Demonstrated skill and composure within the Midfield line, providing the Lynx with multiple offensive opportunities.

  • Samantha Ducey: Played essential defense in a high intensity game, helping to keep Rhodes within striking distance.

  •  Catherine Gluodenis: Made 6 pivotal saves preventing any further goals despite the large number of shots.

Looking Forward: Rhodes vs Concordia University and Marian University

The Lynx are back in Memphis for two more CFHC conference matches next weekend. They will host the Concordia University Falcons on October 5, 2024, and the Marian University Sabres on October 6, 2024, for their Epilepsy Awareness game. Be sure to wear your purple and show out for the Lynx as they highlight this important cause. The Rhodes field hockey team is determined to show their strengths as they continue conference play.
