Lynx Finish The Weekend 2-0

The Rhodes College Field Hockey team was on the road to Indiana this weekend. On September 21, 2024, they faced the DePauw University Tigers, followed by a game against the Earlham College Quakers on September 22, 2024. The two non-conference matches were rigorous but they Lynx ended the weekend with an 2-0 record. They secured an exciting 2-1 overtime win against the Tigers and a 3-1 victory over the Quakers, showcasing their skill and determination in these crucial games.  

RECAP: RHODES VS. DePauw University 

The DePauw Tigers were tough opponents for the Rhodes Lynx. DePauw's, Ashley Appleby, opened the scoring at 13:39, ending the first quarter with a 1-0 lead for DePauw. No other goals were scored in the first half. Rhodes came out with a renewed energy in the second half and Sheela Vasan knocked it in the back of the cage at 49:39 to tie the game. The fourth quarter concluded at 1-1, leading the game to overtime. Due to penalty cards late in the fourth quarter the Lynx were forced to play down to begin overtime. Despite the setback, Izzy Hendricks scored off of a penalty corner and clinched the 2-1 win for Rhodes.

  • Rhodes College: 7 total shots (5 on goal), 7 saves, 4 penalty corners. 

  • DePauw University: 11 total shots (8 on goal), 3 saves, 8 penalty corners. 

RECAP: RHODES VS. Earlham College 

The Lynx brought the heat after their Saturday win. At 28:50, Bella Spina pushed it past the goalie, putting the Lynx at a 1-0 lead to end the first half. After a weather delay at 46:25, the Lynx brought the energy. Bella Spina scored for the second time at 50:20. Shortly after, Grace Utz knocked it in the back of the cage at 56:59 off a penalty corner. The Quakers' Beatrice Meeks put Earlham on the board at 58:19, ending the game in a 3-1 win for the Lynx.

  • Earlham College: 3 total shots (3 on goal), 6 saves, 4 penalty corners. 

Key Weekend Performances:  

  • Bella Spina: Brought the energy for the Lynx by scoring two goals against Earlham and demonstrated the same energy by providing multiple offensive opportunities in both games.   

  • Elinor West: Provided essential defense and saves during two intense matches for the Lynx. She also assisted two goals during the weekend.  

  •  Izzy Hendricks: Secured the Lynx win in overtime against DePauw in a high intensity game.  

Looking Forward: Rhodes vs Centre College and Lincoln Memorial University  

The Rhode College Field Hockey Team is back in action next weekend, traveling to Danville, Kentucky. They face Centre College on September 28, 2024 for their first CFHC conference game. On September 29, 20204, they meet the Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitters for a non-conference match. These challenge the Lynx and demonstrate their grit and ability.
