The Rhodes Baseball team traveled to Georgia this weekend to face the Berry College Vikings in a three-game clash between two of the top teams in the SAA. The first two games were played in a doubleheader on Saturday, followed by game 3 on Sunday.
Game 1 was a tale of the Viking offense as they came out scoring early and often, eventually finishing the game with a total of 10 runs placed on the scoreboard. This would be all it would take to give the Lynx the defeat in game 1 of the series by a score of 10-1.
Game 2 stuck to a similar pattern as the Viking bats remained hot. They were able to plate 13 runs in the contest, and the Lynx offense could not keep up. The Lynx would take their second loss by a score of 13-2, but a major highlight from the game was the freshman infielder,
Brandon Trichell, who got the start at 3rd base and went 3-3 at the plate and recorded his first collegiate RBI.
Rhodes hit the reset button heading into Sunday's single-game contest.
Brandon Trichell continued his hot streak as he picked up 2 more hits and another RBI in the bottom of the 4th. The Lynx would not score again until the bottom of the 8th when
Quinn Blackman delivered a clutch single to drive in
Keith Adams and
Ben Burkhart. 3 runs would prove to be plenty of support for the Lynx starter,
Hank Shield. The talented freshman dealt 5.2 innings of 1-run baseball in which he only allowed 1 hit. From there, he turned the ball over to the experienced reliever,
Will May, who masterfully tossed 3.1 innings of shutout ball, only allowing 1 hit and striking out 2. The pair of stunning arms on the mound allowed Rhodes to pick up a win in game 3, besting the Vikings 3-1.
The Lynx will be back at Stauffer Field this weekend as they enter another conference series against the Birmingham Southern College Panthers. Games 1 and 2 will be played on Saturday (April 13th), followed by game 3 on Sunday (April 14th) in the afternoon. You can catch those streamed live on the Lynx Live Network.
