Lynx Top Vikings in Final Game of Regular Season

As the Rhodes College Lynx come off of a Friday night win, they arrive in Rome, Georgia, to take on the Berry College Vikings on their senior day. The Lynx, 4-0 in conference, matched up against the Vikings, who were 3-1 in a competitive game.

The first quarter started with a classic duo of Molly Martiner feeding Chloe Parker for the game's first goal, starting Parker's 6-point performance. The Vikings answered back, tying it up, but without fail, the Lynx went on a 6-goal run. Senior Jules Dalessandro went unassisted, followed by Chloe Parker and Caroline KardianAvery Burke dodged through the Berry defense, having back-to-back goals. Junior Molly Heidrick took advantage of a woman-up opportunity, making the first quarter score 7-2.

Berry opened the second quarter with a goal, but another five-goal run by the Lynx would stop their potential momentum. Molly MartinerAlban Erdle, and Chloe Parker scored goals, along with back-to-back goals from junior Anna Erskine. The halftime score read 12-4 going into the locker room.

Going into the third quarter, freshman Alban Erdle was the first to score, while Parker went back-to-back with an assist from Issa Allbritton. The Lynx defense was on lockdown, allowing 0 goals on 6 shots from the Vikings, making the score 15-5 going into the fourth quarter.

After the scoring drought, the Vikings got on the board first in the fourth quarter. Rhodes quickly answered back with a feed from Molly Heidrick to Anna Erskine, securing her a hat-trick on the day. Heidrick then took the ball herself and scored the last goal of the game in a woman-up opportunity, with the final score at 17-5.

The Lynx defense came up with tremendous ground balls, caused turnovers, and overall team defense. Goalie Olivia Wood had her most dominant game yet with a season-high 14 saves and a .74% save percentage. Junior Bari Pinkett led the team with 7 ground balls, 4 caused turnovers, and 6 draw controls. On the draw circle, Caroline Kardian and Avery Burke were able to scrap for 4 draw controls each. With the 2020 season canceled due to COVID-19, this win secured the Rhodes College Lynx with their 9th straight SAA regular season champion title.

The Lynx look forward to an SAA quarterfinal bye and to playing the winner of the University of the South: Sewanee versus Oglethorpe University on Sunday, April 21, at 12 p.m.
