The Rhodes College Lynx are coming off their first SAA conference win. They take on the Oberlin College Yeomen at Mason Field.
The Lynx take control of the game immediately, racking up 9 unanswered goals in the 1st quarter. This was from the hard work from sophomore Caroline Kardian by dominating on the draw, totaling a high of 15 draw controls. The Lynx played with a selfless offense, resulting in 6 out of the 9 goals being assisted by junior Molly Heidrick and seniors Molly Martiner and Jules Dalessandro.
The Yeomen responded with a goal with 1:34 left in the first. The Lynx responded with a quick goal to end the quarter 10-1.
To start the second quarter, the Yeomen find an opening with an unassisted goal, but senior Avery Burke responds. The Lynx roll with the momentum, resulting in four more goals. Anna Erskine tallied two in the second quarter, assisted by senior Chloe Parker and Caroline Kardian. Avery sealed the half with a buzzer-beater goal, assisted by Molly Martiner, to bring the score to 15-2.
Going into the 3rd quarter, the Yeomen come in hot, scoring another unassisted goal. Junior Sophia Rose takes the goalie on scoring a goal to bring the Lynx up 16-3. Rhodes's defense leveled up by holding the Yeomen by not allowing goals for 4 minutes. The Lynx go into the 4th with their heads up to keep the positive energy going.
As the 4th quarter begins, the midfield is able to gain possession due to senior Isabella Skelena's ground ball. As the Yeomen start to get physical, this results in a player-up opportunity, and first-year Alban Erdle capitalizes on a goal assisted by Chloe Parker. The Lynx wrapped up the contest with first-year Maddie BeVier's free position goal, bringing the final score to 18-6.
Junior goalkeeper Olivia Wood totaled 7 saves, and midfielders and defenders racked up a total of 7 caused turnovers.
The Lynx enter their 2nd SAA competition 1-0 as they travel to Danville, KY, to take on the Centre Colonels at 10 am CT.
