After a long day of travel, the Rhodes College Lynx arrived in Danville, Kentucky, to take on the Centre College Colonels. Rhodes entered the game 1-0 in conference play, while the Colonels stood at 3-0. Thus, this Saturday's matchup was critical.
Starting off the first quarter, Avery Burke went unassisted in the first 30 seconds to get points on the board. The Colonels held the Lynx scoreless for half of the quarter until Julia Dalessandro and Alban Erdle tied the score. Junior Anna Erskine scored back-to-back goals going into the second quarter, starting a six-goal run by the Lynx.
Senior Avery Burke was proving herself on the field, scoring three goals back-to-back, followed by a shot and buzzer-beater goal by Chloe Parker as the clock approached one second going into halftime.
Going into the third quarter, the score stood at 9-4 in favor of the Lynx. Avery Burke scored twice more, totaling 6 goals for the Lynx. Senior Chloe Parker had a hat-trick in just the third quarter, totaling 4 goals on the day. In addition, Anna Erskine went back-to-back again going into the fourth quarter, also giving her 4 goals on the day. Sam Horowitz and Molly Martiner finish out scoring for the Lynx, making the final score 19-7.
Sophomore Caroline Kardian was essential on the draw, winning 11 and surpassing 200 career draw controls. Rhodes' defensive unit was determined as they held the Colonels scoreless in two quarters and were relentless even in woman-down moments. Isabella Sklena and Bari Pinkett both led with 4 ground balls on the day, while Bari Pinkett and Avery Burke each had 2 caused turnovers. Junior goalie Olivia Wood recorded 4 saves while playing a vital role in leadership on the defensive end.
The Lynx look forward to Tuesday, April 2nd, at 4:00 PM when they continue conference play and take on the Hendrix College Warriors at home.
