As the Lynx came off a hard-fought week in Virginia Beach, they were ready to take on the Sewanee Tigers at their home opener on Mason Field's brand-new turf for Morgan's Message dedication game.
Within the game's first two minutes, Avery Burke was the first to put points on the board for the Lynx. Getting up 2-0 by a goal from Junior Molly Heidrick, the Tigers responded with 1 goal early in the quarter. After a goal from freshman Maddie BeVier, the Tigers scored 4 goals and gained the lead. With the Lynx knowing their strengths, they scored the next 9 goals unanswered by the Tigers, continuing into the 2nd quarter. Senior Molly Martiner recorded her first goal of the game halfway into the 2nd quarter, along with Sophomores Caroline Kardian and Sophia Horowitz scoring one each and making the halftime score 12-6 in favor of the Lynx.
Going into the 3rd quarter, Molly Heidrick had back-to-back goals, giving her a hat trick and leading the Rhodes offense in 4 assists, totaling 7 points for the day. Senior Chloe Parker was essential on the offensive side, securing her hat-trick by the end of the 3rd quarter. Continuing, Sophomore Riley Schutt ended the 3rd quarter and started the 4th quarter with goals for the Lynx. Senior Julia Dalessandro was the last to score, finishing off the 4th quarter and leading the Lynx to an 18-11 victory over the Tigers. Rhodes shared the wealth on the attacking end, having 9 different goal scorers and 3 Lynx with hat-tricks.
The defensive unit played strong and made many opportunities for hustle plays, turning into caused turnovers, which Bari Pinkett led with 3 on the day. Isabella Sklena and Bari Pinkett also lead in ground balls with 4 each. The draw circle team was scrapping hard on the ground and in the air as Caroline Kardian led the team with 10 draw controls. Goalie and Junior Olivia Wood had 7 saves on the day with a .41 save percentage.
Coming off their first SAA conference win of the season, the Lynx will play against Oberlin College on Thursday, March 28th, at 3:00 PM at Mason Field.
