The Lynx fell to the Washington University Bears yesterday in a 15-12 slugfest of a game. In the first, after giving up 5, the Lynx rebounded with a 6 spot, highlighted by RBI hits from Daniel Hicks, Quinn Blackman, Malcolm Rohlfing, Myles Kruger, and Cooper Kuriger.
Ben Burkhart also notched multiple RBI, singling home Myles Kruger in the third, and smoking a triple to the wall in left center, scoring Kruger and Rohlfing. It was a great offensive day for the Lynx, but they could not hold onto the lead, giving up 6 in the top of the ninth. They got something going in the bottom of the ninth as Malcolm Rohlfing doubled to left, but they couldn't complete the rally, finalizing the score at 15-12.
The Lynx rebounded after yesterdays loss with a huge win in a heated battle against the WashU Bears this afternoon.
Junior Ben Burkhart, hitting .465 on the year, punched in an incredible offensive performance, going 4-4 and hitting for the cycle, including a line drive homer over the scoreboard that left the bat at over 110 MPH. Burkhart also scored 4 times himself.
The Lynx punched back after letting up 5 in the first, scoring 3 in the first and 2 in the second, with notable at bats coming from Dante Messina, Corbin Kinder, Eli Selby, and Quinn Blackman.
With the score knotted at 9 in the 8th, Ben Burkhart smoked a massive triple, and, with two outs, Dante Messina lined a go-ahead single up the middle, giving the Lynx the late lead.
The notable story on the pitching side was Senior Colby Slaughter, who came in in relief in the fourth and pitched a dominant 6 innings, giving up only 1 run on 2 hits, while punching out 7, absolutely shutting down the WashU hitters.
The Lynx are back in action tomorrow as they take on Arcadia at noon.
