Men's Basketball Finishes Weekend with a Win

It's Senior Night in Mallory Gymnasium for the Rhodes College Lynx as they take on the Berry College Vikings.

The first half was a competitive ball game as Rhodes and Berry traded buckets. The difference in that half between the two teams was Berry's discipline. Rhodes's 1-2-2 defensive scheme gave them trouble, but Berry's patience on offense waited for Rhodes to make a mistake, and they were able to capitalize by hitting a couple of threes. With three minutes left in the half, Rhodes wasn't able to score until Arness Georgetown got a last-second layup, giving Rhodes some momentum even though they were down 28-34.

Coming into the second half, the Lynx found themselves on the end of a 9-0 run by Berry. After calling a timeout, the Lynx woke up, but their slow start resulted in them down 23 points with seven minutes left in the second half. That didn't stop the Lynx as they rallied together and showed their explosive scoring ability, going on a 22-11 run. However, time was not on their side, as they were defeated 76-65. The leading scorers for Rhodes were Phil Dotson, who scored 20 points, and Max Adelman, who scored 10. Thank you, Arness Georgetown and Hayden Lamey, for everything y'all have contributed to men's basketball at Rhodes College. Throughout your four-year career, there have been ups and downs, but even through the challenging times, you have persevered and consistently been great leaders in the program.

Sunday afternoon, the Rhodes College Lynx played the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels. The Lynx have struggled a bit as they have lost 9 of their last 10 games, but their season is far from over. They are hungry for a win and want to end their long stretch of home games with a win.

In the first half, Rhodes played a very solid game. Their defensive intensity took away the post-up option, which made Oglethorpe struggle as they tried to force the ball into the post anyway. Rhodes's defense forced bad shots and turnovers, which led to a lot of fastbreak buckets. The Lynx were rolling and were up four with three minutes to go in the half. Unfortunately, the Petrels went on an unexpected run that included a barrage of deep threes and some post-up touches that ended up being and-one layups. The Lynx were down 37-47 as the buzzer sounded for halftime.

The Lynx were determined to turn their season around and exploded for 53 points in the second half. Phil Dotson led this surge of scoring for the Lynx, scoring 17 points and dishing out 7 assists. Even with this performance, Oglethorpe stuck around as they drew a lot of fouls as they shot 18 free throws to Rhodes's 13. 6 of Rhodes's 13 free throws came in the last two minutes of the ball game as Oglethorpe kept intentionally fouling. Rhodes finally got their third win in conference play and knocked off a top-three-place team in the SAA standings as they defeated Oglethorpe 90-82. Phil finished the game with a career-high 44 points and broke the Rhodes single-game scoring record. Trevor Lombard followed with 15 points. Go Lynx!!!
