Friday, February 11, the Rhodes College Lynx took a road trip to Jackson to play the Millsaps College Majors. After defeating the three-seeded Oglethorpe in their last game, Rhodes is looking to capitalize and go on a winning streak to lead them into the SAA Conference Tournament.
The first half was full of runs for both teams. Rhodes was on the wrong side of those runs twice as they started the game scoreless in the first four minutes and thirty seconds.
Max Adelman got Rhodes on board with a solid layup that took the lid off the basket and started their 13-7 run which tied the game. After being tied 13-13, the game was close and had two more ties until Rhodes had a shooting slump from three that Millsaps capitalized on with an 8-2 run to end the half, 28-22.
In the second half, the Lynx struggled to start the half again as they only scored 6 points in the first four minutes. Then going on a scoring drought that caused them to go down 17 points. The Lynx responded with scoring 10-0, but that was the closest they got to coming back. They couldn't put together enough defensive stops and missed too many threes. Rhodes lost the game 68-56. The leading scorers were
Max Adelman with 15,
Arness Georgetown II with 13, and
Tyler Jasek with 11.
In their last road game of the SAA Conference regular season, the Rhodes College Lynx take on the Birmingham-Southern College Panthers. Rhodes's troubles on the road continue, coming off a loss to Millsaps in their last game. They have only won one game on the road this season and are looking to change that trend.Â
Rhodes had another offensively slow start as after scoring their first four points, they found themselves on the end of a 12-1 run by Birmingham-Southern. Even though Rhodes had 11 turnovers in the first half and shot 28% from the field, they put together a run with five minutes left in the half. Rhodes went on a 14-7 run to close the half, 26-35.
The Lynx found their groove offensively in the second half as they exploded for 41 points. They scratched and clawed until they got their first lead with seven minutes left in the game. From then on, the two teams battled, but the Panthers broke through the defense easily, as the Lynx worked hard to make every bucket they got. With thirty seconds left, the Lynx were down two with a chance to tie to take the lead. However, a miscommunication on a back-door play caused a bad turnover and Rhodes was defeated 67-69. The top scorers were
Phil Dotson with 18,
Trevor Lombard with 16, and
Zavien Williams with 10.
