Lynx fall to Lee University on the Road

Right off a conference title win and an appearance in the NCAA Regionals, the Rhodes Lynx started off their Women's Lacrosse season in Cleveland, TN, against the Lee University Lady Flames. Despite the heartfelt effort and work from the Lynx, the Lady Flames came away with a 13-8 win.

The Lynx came out firing right away, putting up the first 2 goals on the board. Avery Burke takes it to the cage unassisted to start the game off. Seconds later, Chloe Parker receives the ball from Molly Martiner, making the score 2-0 in favor of the Lynx. Despite the fast scoring for the Lynx, the Lady Flames responded with 4 more goals in the first quarter.

Going into the 2nd quarter, Chloe Parker and Molly Martiner connected yet again and created another scoring opportunity for the Lynx at 14:40. The Lady Flames came back with a response of 4 goals, 2 of which were woman-up opportunities. Despite a relentless effort from the Lynx defense, the halftime score stood at 8-3 in favor of the Lady Flames.

To open up the second half, Caroline Kardian scores unassisted to bring the Lynx within a 3-goal game. Avery Burke tallies up 2 more goals to shorten the deficit to now a 2-goal game. At 7:59 in the 4th quarter, freshman Maddie BeVier rips her first collegiate goal, assisted by senior Chloe Parker. Despite this effort, the Lady Flames scored 5 total goals to wrap up the score to 13-8 in favor of Lee University.

Our defensive unit did not go unnoticed, totaling 4 caused turnovers from 4 different Lynx to give the offense more scoring opportunities. Olivia Wood dominated by tallying 6 saves, which is under 50% save percentage. The Lynx battled on the draw circle, coming up with 13 draw controls, 7 of which came from sophomore Caroline Kardian, 3 from junior Bari Pinkett, 2 from sophomore Sophia Horowitz, and 1 from senior Avery Burke.

The Lynx look ahead to Saturday, February 24th, to a trip to Claremont, CA, where they will face off against Colorado College and Pomona-Pitzer on Sunday, February 25th.
