Box Score 2 Coming into this weekend with a loss to start their season against Lee University, the Rhodes Lynx were eager to get a win under their belt. Playing two games, one against the Colorado College Tigers and the other against the Pomona-Pitzer College Sagehens, the Lynx went 1-1 on the weekend.
On Saturday, the Lynx faced the Tigers, who just came off a close loss to the Sagehens. Rhodes came out strong, making the first quarter of the game 6-2 with five different Lynx scoring goals. Chloe Parker and Avery Burke lead the charge, scoring the first two with attackers Caroline Kardian and Molly Heidrick not too far behind. Ending the second quarter, First Year Alban Erdle scored her first career goal in the utmost fashion, increasing the lead to 9-5. Rhodes shared the wealth on the offense with 9 different Lynx recording goals by the end of the game.
Due to the Lynx's tenacious defense, the Tigers never had a lead or even tied up the game at any point during the match, making the final score 18-16 in favor of the Lynx. Isabella Sklena recorded 4 ground balls, and Emma Norris led the team with 2 caused turnovers. Goalie Olivia Wood had a 30% save percentage with 7 saves. Possession was key to the win as the draw circle grabbed 18 draw controls led by Caroline Kardian and Bari Pinkett.
The energy was powerful coming into the Sunday game against the Sagehens. With both teams beating the Colorado College Tigers prior, the game would be gritty. The first quarter was led by Sophomore Caroline Kardian, who was the first to put points on the board. Alban Erdle scored in the second quarter following her first career goal. Sophia Horowitz and Avery Burke were determined and scored once to end the game.
Defense held strong, coming up with several caused turnovers and ground balls to keep the Sagehens from scoring. As the Lynx take a break this weekend, they look ahead to Spring Break, where they open with a game against Christopher Newport University on March 10th. Following, they will face St. Mary's College (IN) on March 13th and Shenandoah University on March 16th.
