Lynx Split Weekend On The Road

This weekend, the Rhodes Women's Volleyball team went 1-1on the road. On Saturday, October 26th, the Lynx played Berry College. The following day on Sunday, October 27th, the Lynx played Oglethorpe University.
 
RECAP RHODES VS BERRY
The first set started off on a high note for the Lynx with a four-point run led by serves from junior Maggie Lukemire. The Lynx continued with their momentum earning a ten-point advantage over the Vikings. With six kills from sophomore Yzzi Dsamou, three kills from sophomore Meg Gebhart, and three kills from sophomore Rachel Clarke, the Lynx maintained the lead throughout the whole set. At the end of the set, junior Hope Wehrli got two blocks and finished the game 25-19.
 
The second set started off with back-and-forth points with both teams playing with a new fire. Although the Lynx battled, the Vikings went on a run giving them a substantial lead over the Lynx. The Lynx ended up falling short in set two with each team now tied 1-1 in sets.
 
The third set started off with an ace from sophomore Emma Clark and an early kill from Yzzi Dsamou. However, the Vikings did not make it easy on the Lynx and both teams had to battle to try to get a lead. But with seven kills from Yzzi Dsamou, kills from junior Hope Wehrli, and sophomore Rachel Clarke, the Lynx stayed in the game. With a joint block from Hope Wehrli and Meg Gebhart, the Lynx won the third set 26-24.
 
The fourth set began with a four-point run in favor of the Vikings leaving the Lynx to try to fight back early on. Meg Gebhart had five kills, senior Kym Young had four kills, and Rachel Clarke had three kills. The Lynx fought but fell short in set four with a 20-25 score.
 
Now in a fifth set and determined to make history, the Lynx rallied together. Kym Young got a kill to earn the Lynx their first point and start their momentum. However, the Vikings eventually gained a four-point lead making the score 4-8. The Lynx battled to make the score 10-13. Then, Yzzi Dsamou got two kills in a row and Kym Young got a kill to tie the score. Two points away from victory, Emma Clarke set Kym Young to get a kill. With a hitting error from the Vikings, the Lynx won the fifth set 15-13. The Lynx made history with this win over the Vikings! The last time Rhodes Volleyball beat Berry Volleyball was in 2015.

RECAP RHODES VS OGLETHORPE
The first set started off slow for the Lynx with the Petrels earning an early lead. However, the Lynx did not let up and eventually tied the score 18-18. The remainder of the set went back and forth with both teams putting points on the scoreboard. Sophomore Rachel Clarke had five kills and sophomore Yzzi Dsamou had four kills to help the Lynx stay in the set. The Lynx managed to pull through and won the first set 26-24.
 
The second set also started off in favor of the Petrels, leaving the Lynx to fight to gain some momentum. Yzzi Dsamou had an outstanding set with eight kills for her team. Unfortunately, the Lynx fell short and lost the second set 23-25.
 
With a set score tied 1-1, the third set became a matter of who would have the advantage going into the fourth set. Kills from Yzzi Dsamou, junior Hope Wehrli, and senior Kym Young helped the Lynx stay in the fight, but they fell short 15-25.
 
Heading into the fourth set, there was a lot on the line for the Lynx who needed to win to stay in the game. With an early kill from sophomore Meg Gebhart, the Lynx started off with momentum. Senior Kym Young and sophomore Yzzi Dsamou both had three kills, earning points for the Lynx. With an ace from Meg Gebhart, the Lynx won the fourth set 25-22.
 
The fifth set was a game of back-and-forth points until the Petrels went on a run to gain the advantage. The Lynx continued to fight with digs from sophomore Olivia Wiseman and freshman Chloe Davis. Yzzi Dsamou also had four kills for the Lynx. Unfortunately, the Lynx fell short 11-15 and a final set score of 2-3.

Looking Forward: Last Conference Game
Rhodes Volleyball will take on Millsaps next Saturday, November 2nd at home. This game will be a Pink Out event so fans are encouraged to wear pink attire. This game is also celebrating Rhodes Volleyball alumni for homecoming.
