The Rhodes College Football team traveled to Sewanee this week to square off in one of college football's oldest rivalries against the Tigers for the Orgill Cup. With the all-time series record tied at 44-44-2, the Lynx were looking to gain the series lead and extend their win streak to 5 years in a row.
The Lynx got off to a fast start with an efficient opening drive capped off by a 9-yard touchdown run from Robert Daniel, his 3rd rushing touchdown of the season. Sewanee was able to respond quickly, however, as they tied the game 7-7 with 6:28 to play in the first quarter.
The Rhodes offense was held dormant in the second quarter while the Tigers were able to tack on 7 more points and take a 14-7 lead. Sewanee got the ball back with 2:08 remaining in the half and after driving deep into Rhodes territory, the Lynx defense made a stand and forced a missed field goal to keep the score at 14-7 Tigers heading into the half.
Both teams traded punts to begin the second half, but the Sewanee offense would eventually find their groove, moving the ball down the field and converting a field goal to extend their lead to 17-7 with 7:14 left in the 3rd quarter. With the Lynx offense unable to respond, the Tigers got the ball back and marched down the field once again, this time finding the end zone to take their lead up to 24-7 at the end of the 3rd quarter.
The 4th quarter belonged to the Tigers as well as they outscored the Lynx 7-0 to finalize the score at 31-7 in favor of Sewanee. The Tigers take the all-time series lead by a record of 45-44-2.
The Lynx record falls to 2-5 (1-3) on the year as they look to bounce back next week at home against the Millsaps Majors. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 pm on Nov. 2, and you can catch live coverage of the game on the Lynx Live Network.
