Rhodes Volleyball Sweeps Sewanee, Falls to Centre

This weekend, the Rhodes Lynx traveled to Sewanee, TN, to compete against conference rivals the Sewanee Tigers on Saturday, October 19th. The Lynx also traveled on the 20th to Danville, KY, to face the Centre Colonials. The Lynx went 1-1 this weekend, sweeping Sewanee and falling to Centre.


RECAP: RHODES VS Sewanee

Key Performances:
•    Yzzi Dsamou led the Lynx with 17 kills
•    Mackenzie Geer led the offense with 21 assists
•    Olivia Wiseman led the defense with 18 digs

MAIN RECAP INFO

After a 5-set reverse sweep in Mallory Gymnasium earlier in the season, the Lynx traveled to the Tigers to face off again. The teams battled back and forth in the first set till a kill from Kym Young evened the score to 17-17. This sent Emma Clarke back to serve for the Lynx, where she led a 6-point run to break away from the Tigers. The Lynx closed out the first match set 25-20 with a closing kill from Rachel Clarke. 

Similarly to the first set, the Lynx and Tigers battled it out, and no team could take a drastic lead. A kill by Rachel Clarke sent Olivia Wiseman to serve, going on a 4-point run on a series of errors from the Tigers. Capitalizing on the mistakes, the Lynx could take the set's momentum and claim a second set win 25-20. 

Entering the third set of the matchup, the Lynx came out hot, tallying 14 kills. The Lynx offense led by Mackenzie Geer and Emma Clarke was spread well through the offense and allowed the Lynx to claim a third and final set win at 25-18 to take the match against the Sewanee Tigers.

Team Statistics:
•    The Lynx tallied 40 kills in three sets, hitting .280 as a team
•    eight aces were served in the match by the Lynx

Key Performances:
•    Rachel Clarke led with 13 kills
•    Mackenzie Geer led with 17 assists and had four blocks

MAIN RECAP INFO
The Lynx traveled to Danville, KY, to take on the Centre College Colonels. In the first set, the Lynx and Colonels battled back and forth, with both teams holding the lead for some time. Yet a couple of late errors from the Lynx offense and kills from Centre closed out the first set 20-25 with a Lynx loss.

Again, the teams battled back and forth to take the momentum of the second set until a 6-point Centre run swung the momentum in favor of the Colonels, leading the Lynx 9-13. But the Lyn battled back, and with a possible match point of 20-24, Emma Clark's service run tied up the game. The Colonels and Lynx battled in extra points, both teams tying and taking the lead several times. The game was finally sealed by a Colonels win with an attack error from the Lynx. 

The Centre Colonels took a hold on the momentum of the match for the last and final set. Centre took the set 17-25 and won the match in 3-0, and contouring to secure their #1 rank in SAA standings.

•    The defense tallied 43 digs and seven blocks

Looking Forward: Rhodes vs. Berry College

Historical Matchup Overview:
The Lynx's next matchup will be against the Berry College Vikings as they travel to Mount Berry, Georgia, on October 26th. The match will begin at 11 am and is the second time the Lynx will face the Vikings this season, falling 0-3 in Memphis.

Looking Forward: Rhodes vs. Oglethorpe

Historical Matchup Overview:
Traveling to Atlanta, the Lynx will take on the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels at 10am on October 27th. This will be the second matchup of the season with the Lynx sweeping the Petrels in Memphis.
