10/21/2024 3:06:00 PM

The Rhodes College field hockey team continues to dominate in the Collegiate Field Hockey Conference (CFHC), winning its fifth-straight match and taking sole possession of first place with a perfect 2-0 league record. This past weekend, the Lynx delivered crucial victories over previously unbeaten Sewanee and Mary Washington, with senior goalkeeper Catherine Gluodenis (Landenberg, Pa.) anchoring the defense in standout performances that earned her Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Gluodenis was a fortress in goal, making pivotal saves to secure both victories for Rhodes. Against Sewanee, she recorded four crucial stops to help preserve a 3-2 win, thwarting several late scoring attempts. She followed that with a heroic double-overtime effort against Mary Washington, making 10 saves, including eight in the extra periods, to lift the Lynx to a thrilling 2-1 victory.

Her consistency and reliability have been on display all season, including last weekend's performance where she notched 17 saves in a win over Division II Maryville University. Gluodenis' leadership continues to shine as she plays a vital role in Rhodes' surge to the top of the CFHC standings.

Rhodes will look to continue its winning ways as they enter the final stretch of the season, with Gluodenis standing tall as the defensive backbone of the squad.

Notable Performances:

  • Alder Dickey (Rhodes): The sophomore forward was instrumental in the Lynx's victory over highly-ranked Mary Washington, assisting on the game-tying goal and netting the game-winner in double overtime to secure a 2-1 win. Dickey's clutch contributions helped Rhodes maintain its winning streak and cement its place atop the conference.
