Game Recap: Rhodes vs. Mary Washington — CFHC Championship

In the CFHC Championship matchup, the Rhodes College field hockey team battled against top-seeded Mary Washington, ultimately falling 3–0 on November 9 at Smith Field in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Despite the result, the Lynx showcased grit and persistence, generating a 10–4 advantage in penalty corners and creating dangerous stretches of pressure throughout the title game.

Key Performances

Alder Dickey was active in the attacking third, recording one of Rhodes' two shots on goal and helping initiate several of the Lynx's corner opportunities. In the midfield, Ella Hess provided steady two-way play, supporting ball movement and contributing to Rhodes' renewed second-half push. On the defensive end, Maria Zaporozhski anchored the backfield with strong tackles and composed clearances, helping slow UMW's pace after their early surge. Goalkeeper Caroline Naifeh finished with four saves—including two strong stops in the fourth quarter—to stabilize the defensive unit and keep the Lynx within reach.

Game Highlights

Mary Washington struck twice in the opening five minutes and added a third late in the second quarter to take control of the match. From that point on, Rhodes tightened defensively, holding the Eagles scoreless for the final 31 minutes. Offensively, the Lynx produced their strongest momentum in the fourth quarter, generating three shots and two penalty corners as they pushed for a late response, but UMW held steady to secure the championship.
