Lynx Fall To Trinity At Home

The Rhodes College Football team returned home this week to take on a tough conference opponent in the Trinity University Tigers. After a solid first half from the Lynx, they were unable to keep the success rolling as Trinity was able to run away with the game in the second half.

The Lynx were the first to get on the scoreboard after a strong drive led by Evan Reeder that was capped off with an 11-yard touchdown reception from Alex LaBlanc. Barrett Buchanan added the extra point to give the Lynx the early 7-0 lead. Trinity was able to respond with 10 unanswered points before the Lynx could find their way back into the end zone. With 6:50 left to play in the first half, Evan Reeder launched a deep ball over the middle and connected with senior wide receiver Brent Barlow who took it 70 yards to the house and gave the Lynx the lead once again by a score of 14-10. Trinity would go on to score another touchdown right before halftime and the score would be 17-14 in favor of the Tigers at the break.

From there, it was all Trinity as they were able to control the clock and the football, keeping Rhodes off the scoreboard for the entire second half. By the time the clock ran out, the final score resulted in a 38-14 Trinity victory.

Quarterback Evan Reeder was accurate through the air as he went 11-18 for 178 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Brent Barlow led the receiving core with 89 yards and a touchdown followed by Alex LeBlanc who accounted for 55 yards and a touchdown as well. Defensively, Hart Penfield accumulated 10 total tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss, leading the Lynx defense in both categories.

The Lynx record falls to 2-4 (1-2) as they get set to hit the road for one of football's oldest rivalries against the Sewanee Tigers. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 pm on October 26th.
