Game Recap: Football | | Stephen Swoner '26

Lynx Take Loss On The Road

Immediately following a huge win at home, the Rhodes College Football team took their second flight of the season to Georgetown, Texas to take on the Southwestern Pirates. The Pirates seemed to have the Lynx number from the jump, and the Lynx had trouble making stops on defense.

The Rhodes offense was dormant in the entire first half and the Pirates capitalized, scoring 35 unanswered points, and taking a 35-0 lead into halftime. The Lynx would get the ball to begin the second half with a huge deficit to start chipping away at. It took the offense 2 plays and 30 seconds to drive down the field and put the ball in the end zone thanks to a 20-yard touchdown pass from Evan Reeder to John Hampton III. After the Pirates responded with a field goal to extend their lead to 38-7, the Lynx got the ball back with 9:06 to play in the 3rd quarter. Quarterback Taylor Haas led the team down the field and capped off a 4-minute drive with his 5th touchdown pass of the year, connecting with Clayton Gehman and cutting the lead down to 38-14.

At the start of the 4th quarter, the Pirates were able to put the ball in the end zone once again and that would prove to be the final nail in the coffin. Despite the Lynx offensive effort from Evan Reeder who drove down the field once again and tossed his second touchdown of the game, the deficit would be too much to overcome. The Lynx would fall on the road by a final score of 45-22.

Kellen Gehres, John Hampton III, and Clayton Gehman all received touchdowns for the Lynx. Evan Reeder led the offense in passing as he went 9-19 for 137 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The Lynx record falls to 2-3 (1-1) on the season and they will return home this upcoming week to take on conference foe Trinity University. That game is scheduled to kick off at noon on October 19th from Crain Field, and you can catch all the action live on the Lynx Live Network.
