Lynx Scrap A Win In OT Play

The Rhodes College Field Hockey team made a swift trip up to St. Louis, Missouri, to face the Marville University Saints. This non-conference game was a true test of the Lynx's skills, honed throughout the season, culminating in an exhilarating 2-1 victory.  

RECAP: RHODES VS. Maryville University  

The Lynx approached this game with fire and determination. First-year Izzy Hendricks set the tone by scoring a goal at 5:33 off a penalty corner. The saints responded quickly with a goal by Jessie Earley at 7:05. After lots of exciting back and forth play, Izzy Hendricks found the back of the net for the second time, again from a penalty corner. The tight contest demonstrated the grit and resilience of both teams. Ultimately, the Lynx were victorious, ending the game with a 2-1 win.   

Team Statistics:  

  • Rhodes College: 9 total shots (7 on goal), 13 saves, 10 penalty corners. 

  • Mayville University: 17 total shots (14 on goal), 5 saves, 6 penalty corners. 

Key Weekend Performances:  

  • Catherine Gluodenis: Had 13 crucial saves, helping the Lynx maintain their lead in this down to the wire match.  

  • Elinor West: Demonstrated immense diligence on the back line, making a critical defensive save and playing composed defense throughout.  

  • Izzy Hendricks: Scored both goals for the Lynx showing her grit and ability to capitalize on offensive opportunities 

Looking Forward: Rhodes vs Sewanee, University of Mary Washington, and Christopher Newport University 

The Rhodes college field hockey team remains busy during fall break. On Friday October 18, 2024, they face the Sewanee Tigers in Sewanee, Tennessee. The following day, October 19, 2024, they have a match against the University of Mary Washington Eagles. Finally, they travel to Salem, Virginia, to play the Chistopher Newport University Captains on October 21, 2024. Tune in to cheer on the Lynx as they compete in these exciting games that continue to prove their talent and diligence.
