Sunday afternoon the Rhodes College Lynx took on the Ogelthorpe University Petrel.
Throughout the first 14 minutes of the first half, it was competitive contest between Rhodes and Ogelthorpe as no team was making any huge uncontested runs. When Rhodes fell into a scoring so did Ogelthorpe and when Rhodes was scoring in bunches so was Ogelthorpe. That was until a string of turnovers by the Lynx led to a barrage of three pointers by the Petrels that propelled them to go on a 18-11 run to end the half. The halftime score was 34-43 with Lynx down by 9.
Second half came and Rhodes played catch up the whole game. They were not able to make any runs that would tie the game or take the lead. Both teams weren't making a lot of shots as they both only made 9 field goals and got most of their points from the line. The Lynx who are one of the best three-point shooting teams in their conference only made 4 of their 22 attempted three pointers this game. Their struggles to score with efficiency resulted in the Lynx losing to Ogelthorpe 67-77.
With this loss Rhodes' conference record falls to 1-2. The leading scorers for the Lynx are
Phil Dotson with 22 points,
Jack Dempsey with 16 on 100% shooting and
Zavien Williams had 11.
