Men's Basketball Falls in Conference Matchup

Friday night Rhodes College are still on the road as they play their second conference game of the season against the Berry College Vikings in Rome, Georgia. Rhodes are undefeated in conference as they are 1-0 since they beat Hendrix and Berry is looking for their first win of conference play as they lost to Ogelthorpe University.

In the first half the Lynx, known for their ability to score at will and in bunches struggled to put points on the board. They settled for a lot of jumpers that they usually make, but tonight the Lynx were just not making enough at a high percentage. On defense they were aggressive and disruptive, but Berry was still able to shoot above 50% from the field even though they shot poorly from three. The halftime score was 29-30 with the Lynx being down 1.

In the second half Rhodes decided to attack the basket more frequently than they did in the first half, but so did Berry. Again, even though Berry shot poorly from three they shot 57% from the field. Rhodes tried to be aggressive on defense as they pressed Berry full court and changed into two to three different defensive half-court sets all in a span of one 30 second possession. However, the turnovers they forced did not lead to opportunities on offense like Berry's was. The Lynx was in the game until the very end, but a couple of bad turnovers and mental lapses on defense which led to dunks by Berry sealed their fate.

Rhodes lost to Berry 68-74 and their record in conference falls to 1-1 as Berry gets their first win in conference play this season. The Lynx looks to split the weekend as they take on Ogelthorpe on Sunday. Leading scorers for the Lynx were Phil Dotson with 19, Arness Georgetown II with 13, Zavien Williams with 13, and Shawn Jones Jr. tallied 12.
