The Rhodes College Lynx are finishing their road trip in Georgia at Oglethorpe University. The Lynx are coming off a solid win against Berry on Friday.
The first half between the two teams was a battle and was a sign of things to come. In the first quarter, Oglethorpe outscored Rhodes 23-20 as both teams were in attack mode offensively. In the second quarter, the scoring dropped slightly because of an offensive drought from both teams from the 6:20 mark all the way to the 2:50 mark. The halftime score was 35-37, with the Lynx down by 2.
Giana Vlahakos and
Avery Marsh had a good half of basketball as they combined for 20 points and 14 rebounds.
In the second half, there were a lot of shots that were attempted, but only a few makes from either team. Both teams settled for many three-pointers and 15-foot jumpers, so they did not go to the free-throw line as much as they did in the last half, even though they shot 100% from the line. Both teams shot under 30% from the field and under 20% from three. In the fourth quarter, the Lynx struggled to score as they only had 8 points, which resulted in the ball game going to overtime.
In overtime, the Lynx outplayed the Petrels as they held them to 3 points while they scored 12 on amazing percentages. They shot 75% from the field, 50% from three, and went 5 for 6 from the free line. Rhodes won the game 71-62 and ended the weekend undefeated in the conference, 3-0. The leading scorers for the Lynx are
Giana Vlahakos, with a double-double of 16 and 11 boards;
Catherine Althoff, who scored 15; and
Avery Marsh, who ended with 12 points, 8 boards, and 8 assists.
