CLEARWATER, Fla. (March 15, 2023) — Rhodes College battled hard against #8 Franklin & Marshall but the Diplomats proved to be too much, coming away with the 14-6 win. The loss moves the Lynx to 3-5 (1-0 SAA) on the season.

The matchup started on a rainy morning with back-and-forth play until Sydney Lowe tallied the first goal for the Diplomats. It would be an offensive heavy quarter for F&M with four additional players scoring to settle into a 5-0 lead.

It took over six minutes for either team to find the back of the net in the second quarter before Maddy Birch put the Diplomats ahead 6-0. Sarah Delaney added one more to the lead before Emily Bruner found Carina Wesker for the first Lynx goal of the day. Bari Pinkett secured the next draw control and Caroline Kardian scored Rhodes' second goal within 30 seconds. Megan Bizub would score the final goal of the half and put the Diplomats up 8-2 at the break.

F&M continued attacking in the second half with a 3-0 scoring run initiated by Lauren Pittman with her first and only goal of the game. Lowe added one on a woman-up opportunity and Gravel notched one off a free-position shot. Rhodes finally tallied on in the third when Wesker found Kardian for her second of the day. The Diplomats added two more goals in the quarter to extend their lead to 12-3.

The Lynx came out strong in the fourth quarter with Avery Burke finding the top corner of the goal for her first tally of the day. Wesker notched a free-position goal while Bruner scored a crease roll goal to continue the 3-0 scoring run and cut the lead down to 6. Rhodes defense was able to hold the Diplomats scoreless in the fourth quarter until the final two minutes of the game. Lowe scored her hat trick goal in the final seconds of a woman-up opportunity and Gravel scored her second in the final minute of the game.

Emma Bradley locked in the defensive unit for the Lynx with 17 saves between the pipes. Bari Pinkett was a catalyst on the draw circle, scooping up 7 of the Lynx 12 draw controls.

Carina Wesker and Caroline Kardian led Rhodes' scorers with two goals apiece while Avery Burke and Emily Bruner notched the remaining two.

The Diplomats had 10 goal scorers in today's match with Sydney Lowe leading with a hat trick and Lydia Cassilly and Abby Gravel each adding two.

The Lynx will finish their Spring Break schedule tomorrow when they travel to play against host Ave Maria University at 4:00pm EST.
