SAINT LEO, Fla. (March 13, 2023) - Babson College jumped out to an early 8-0 lead to control the game's tempo. Rhodes struggled to chip away at the deficit and dropped their first Spring Break game 20-11, moving to 3-4Â (1-0 SAA) on the season.
The Beavers' Clare Connolly won the first six draw controls ensuring possession for Babson, who capitalized with six goals in the first ten minutes of the game. Babson would score the next two goals before Emily Bruner found Carina Wesker for the first Lynx goal. Avery Burke pulled down the next draw control and scored at the end of the quarter, bringing the game to 8-2.
Babson started the second quarter on a 3-0 run before Burke scored her second of the night on a free position shot. Burke would score on another free position in the half and Bruner found Wesker for two additional goals but Babson continued to find the net extending the lead 16-6 at halftime.
After back and forth scoreless transition, Rhodes' Anna Erskine scored her first of the night five minutes into the quarter. The Beavers would score their next and only two goals of the quarter, extending their lead 18-7. Burke scored her fourth goal of the game to end the quarter.
Rhodes struck first in the final quarter with Chloe Parker scoring off a free position shot. Babson won the ensuing draw control and quickly scored one of their own, bringing the score to 19-9. Rhodes outscored Babson 2-1 in the final stretch of the game with Erskine and Burke each tallying another.
Burke snagged six draw controls and led all scorers with five goals, which pushed her over the 100th career goal threshold for the Lynx. Wesker pulled in four draw controls while Parker caused three caused turnovers. Bari Pinkett added two groundballs, one caused turnover and one draw control.
Erin Jayne and Emily Curtis led the offense for Babson, each scoring four goals and dishing out three assists. Dodge and Connolly each added a hat trick for the Beavers. Connolly pulled down 13 draw controls in the game.
The Lynx are back in action Wednesday morning when they take on #8 Franklin & Marshall (2-2)Â in Clearwater, Florida at 10:00am EST.
