LYNX WIN OPENING DAY NAIL BITER AT BELHAVEN

The Lynx started their season with a bang, putting up a 5 spot in the top of the 1st against D3 Pre-Season All-American Brett Sanchez, fueled by extra-base hits from Dante Messina and Chris Penna, as well as a towering 3-run homer by Wood Kimbrough

Freshman lefty Zac Sohosky (3 IP, 3H, 3ER, 2 SO)  began his collegiate career with an 11-pitch inning, sitting down three Blazers in a row.

The Blazers chipped away at Rhodes' lead, putting up 3 in the third, 1 in the fifth, and 1 in the 6th, but the Lynx escaped further damage thanks to solid innings from fifth-year John Fears and Junior Colby Slaughter, as well as a couple designed pickoff plays resulting in two outs at the plate.

With the score knotted at 5 with two away in the ninth, sophomore catcher Malcolm Rohlfing crushed a fastball off the wall in left for a double, scoring Wood Kimbrough all the way from first. But the Lynx weren't done yet. Fifth-year Peter York singled to right field, scoring Rohlfing from second, and advancing to second himself on a miscue by Belhaven right fielder Aubrey Gathright.

Sophomore Noah Roland, after pitching a scoreless 8th, shut down the Blazers, inducing a game-ending double play, a line drive snared by second baseman Peter York who tossed over to shortstop Ben Burkhart, doubling up the runner at second base and sealing the win for the Lynx.

The boys are back in action this Friday, taking on the Emory Eagles in their first of three weekend games at the Huntington Firehouse Classic in Huntington, Alabama.
