Women's Basketball Splits Weekend Road Trip

Over the weekend, Rhodes Women's Basketball was back in action with
away games against Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama, and Emory University in
Atlanta, Georgia. The Lynx went 1-1 over the weekend, putting them at 3-3 on the season.
The Lynx opened the weekend hot against Huntingdon College, scoring 21 points in the 1st
quarter to Huntingdon's 8. The Lynx continued their hot shooting in the 1st half, outscoring
Huntingdon again in the 2nd quarter 17-14, giving them a 16-point lead heading into the 2nd
half. The second half did not start the way the Lynx wanted as they were outscored by 11 in the
third quarter, which saw them enter the 4th quarter with only a 5-point lead. However, the Lynx
were able to hold on behind big 4th quarters from Avery Marsh, who scored 5 points in the
quarter, and Alyssa Bongiovanni and Catherine Althoff, who each scored 6 points in the quarter.
This sealed a 72-69 victory for the Lynx, giving them good momentum going into Sundays
matchup vs Emory.
Avery Marsh led the Lynx in scoring this game with a 20-point performance. Alyssa Bongiovanni
led the Lynx in rebounds this game with 7 while also scoring 12 points with a game-high 4
steals. With this win, the Lynx moved to 3-2 for the year.
The Lynx were back in action on Sunday in Atlanta, Georgia, to take on Emory University.
While the Lynx fought hard the whole game, they eventually fell to Emory 64-51, putting them
back at .500 on the season.
The Lynx kept the game close in the 1st quarter but lost momentum in the 2nd as they were
outscored each quarter and entered halftime with a 16-point deficit. The Lynx did not get the
start they wanted in the 2nd half, as they scored just 10 points to Emory's 15. The Lynx caught
fire in the 4th quarter, scoring 18 to Emory's 10 and playing solid defense throughout the quarter.
It proved to be too little too late for the Lynx, though, as they picked up their 3rd loss of the
season.
Avery Marsh had another strong game on Sunday, posting a double-double with 16 points and
leading the game in rebounds with 10. Giana Vlahakos also had a strong performance on the
glass, matching Marsh with 10 rebounds. Catherine Althoff also had a strong game, posting 15
points on 5/12 shooting and going a perfect 4/4 from the free throw line.
The Lynx have a short break and will play again on December 19 when they travel to St.
Pete Beach, Florida, will take on Drew University in the St. Pete Classic.
