Women’s Basketball Goes 2-0 on Weekend

This past weekend, Rhodes Women's Basketball hosted both the University of the Ozarks and Huntingdon College for a double-header weekend in Memphis. The Lynx played Ozarks on Saturday the 17th and Huntingdon on Sunday. The Lynx won both games, bringing their season record to 2-2. 

 

The Lynx played a strong game against Ozarks, coming back from down 5 at halftime and securing the victory 55-43. Rhodes was only up one point going into the 4th quarter but had a strong team performance, putting up 21 compared to Ozarks' 10 in the 4th. 

 

Avery Marsh led the Lynx in scoring and assists in this game, posting 17 and 5. Giana Vlahakos led the Lynx in rebounds, bringing in an impressive 18 boards. Kearstyn Seay also posted an impressive 12 points and 2 steals. AC Milam also recorded 10 points. 

 

The Huntingdon game was close, with the Lynx barely escaping, 61-59. This game was another successful comeback for the Lynx, as they were down 31-26 at halftime. The Lynx just gradually outscored Huntingdon in the second half, ousting them 17-12 in the 3rd and 18-16 in the 4th. 

 

At the end of the game, a 3-pointer from Avery Marsh put the Lynx up 59-56 with 21 seconds left. After a Huntingdon turnover, the Hawks sent Kearstyn Seay to the free throw line, where she made both to put the Lynx up 61-56. The Hawks made a late 3 with 8 seconds left, but it wasn't enough to come back again, and the Lynx pulled it out 61-59. 

 

Avery Marsh again led the Lynx in scoring and assists, posting 12 and 3. Giana Vlahakos also led the Lynx in rebounds again, with 14. Vlahakos also posted 3 blocks. Seay posted 11 points and 2 steals, and Alyssa Bongiovanni posted 10 points and 10 rebounds. 

 

The Lynx will return to action on December 1st against Huntingdon away in Montgomery, Alabama, and will return to Memphis after an extended road trip on January 12th.
