Lynx Dominate In First Win Of The Season

Men's basketball snaps their three-game losing streak to capture their first win of the 2023-24 season this Sunday afternoon. A dominating 85-51 win against the University of the Ozarks, a team that gave the Lynx their first loss of the 2022-23 season last year.

It was another defensive masterpiece for the Lynx as they came out full of energy and hungry to get their first win. Everyone was flying all over the court to dive for loose balls, force turnovers, and rebound the ball. For the second time this season, the Lynx held their opponent to under 30 points in the first half. Their tough defense had the Ozarks to 24 points on 33 % shooting from the field and 23 % from three. On offense, they were unstoppable, ending the first half with 41 points, shooting 50% from the field, 58% from three, and 100% from the free throw line. Sophomore guard Phil Dotson put the Lynx on the board with a three that started a barrage of three-pointers from Rhodes throughout the game. Phil scored with 13, and the junior guard Zavien Williams was behind him with nine at the half.

Rhodes played even more intensely in the second half than in the first half. The Lynx hit the Ozarks with various defensive sets like 1-3-1 press, 2-3 zone, and man-to-man. The Ozarks tried to match the intensity with a press of their own, but sophomore guard Mike Wagner was an absolute floor general for the Lynx, leading the team in assists with 7. Sharing the ball was an emphasis for the team today, with the Lynx recording a season-high 22 assists. Their unselfish play resulted in Zavien Williams exploding for a season-high 31 points.

Rhodes showcased a 40-minute display of good team basketball. They showed us their potential in the last 6 minutes at Colorado College and the first half against DePauw. With this win, the Lynx improved to 1-3 and only look to improve as they prepare for their Thanksgiving Classic next weekend.
