Los Lynx split their weekend in Georgia beginning with a loss to Oglethorpe University before returning home on a high note to get back in the win column over Berry College.
The Lynx fell to the Stormy Petrels on Friday, with a final score of 73-70. The Lynx controlled the first half before Oglethorpe fought back to get a 42-39 lead at the half before both teams scored 31 in the second half. Three Lynx found themselves with 15+ points. Alexys Mathangani led in points with 23 off of 11 made field goals in a team high 38 minutes of play. Avery Marsh had the team's lone double-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists in 37 minutes. Kearstyn Seay rounded out the top scorers with 16 points including 3 triples and 6 boards in 28 minutes.
The Lynx crashed the glass as they notched 20 more total rebounds than the Petrels, including 10 more off the offensive glass which resulted in a 14-3 edge in second chance points. Oglethorpe, however, capitalized off of 15 Lynx turnovers for 18 points.
To get back to .500 on the season, Los Lynx outlasted the Berry College Vikings in another close game for 63-57 final score and a Rhodes College win.
4 players for the Lynx scored in double digits and two had double-doubles. Alexys Mathangani led the prowl with 19 points and 12 boards in 38 minutes with Kearstyn Seay, 13 points in 31 minutes, and Avery Marsh, 12 points and 7 rebounds in a team-high 39 minutes, right with her. Giana Viahakos gave a tremendous effort off the bench with 10 points and 11 boards in 24 minutes.
As a team, the Lynx once again dominated the glass for a 51-35 total rebounding (18-11 offensive rebounding) advantage resulting in 24 second chance points for Rhodes over the Vikings' 7.
The Lynx were down 37-30 with 8:58 left in 3rd before going on a 10-2 run over the next 5:59 to get the lead back with 2:59 left. After that, it was a back and forth affair that featured 5 of the total game's 8 ties and 3 of the 7 total lead changes.
With a 10-10 (6-3 in conference) record, Los Lynx will return for a two game home stand this upcoming weekend. Up first, they will face off against the Colonels of Centre College on Friday at 6 pm. Then, the rival Sewanee Tigers will be in town for a 1pm matinee on Sunday.
