Los Lynx Earn SAA Win Over Centre!

Friday night, Los Lynx took on the Centre College Colonels in Mallory Gymnasium.

From the jump, both teams came ready to roll, particularly Avery Marsh and Taylor Dupree. Marsh got things going for Rhodes as she scored the first four points before Dupree scored 6 consecutive points for the Lynx to help keep the home team within striking distance down 16-12 after the first quarter. Rhodes had a slower start in the second quarter, as Centre rushed to a 20-12 lead before the Lynx closed the gap going into the locker room down just 24-23.

Rhodes started the second half where they left off with Avery Marsh becoming the first Lynx with double-digit points leading the team to a five point lead. They kept the Colonels at bay through the majority of the quarter before going into the final ten minutes with their largest lead of the game up to that point at 43-35. The Lynx outscored Centre 20-11 in the third.

Marsh and Dupree started hot and kept cooking as two of the three Rhodes players in double-digits. Playing all 40 minutes, Marsh finished 14 points and 8 rebounds. Dupree led all Rhodes in scoring with 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 blocks in 25 impactful minutes off the bench. She shot a team-high 81.8% from the field making 9 of her 11 shot attempts to solidify her efforts. Alexys Mathangani joined the crew with 10 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds, and 2 blocks.

Together, the team secured the win for Los Lynx to break above .500 on the season to a record of 11-10. Head Coach Rodney Rogan saw his team leading by as much as 49-37 with 7:29 left in the game, and they kept fighting despite attempts from Centre College to swing the momentum. Final score was 53-43.

Rhodes will go into their Sunday matchup at 1pm in Mallory Gymnasium against conference rival Sewanee with a conference record of 7-3. Before the tip off, we will be recognizing our Los Lynx seniors.
