Lynx Storm Past Petrels on Senior Day

Rhodes defeated Oglethorpe on Saturday afternoon

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (April 9, 2022) - The Rhodes Lynx extended their win streak to four with an SAA conference win over the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels on Saturday at Mason Field. The win moves Rhodes to 11-3 on the season and 5-0 in conference play. The win also clinches the regular season championship for the Lynx for the sixth straight year.

The game could not have started any better for Rhodes as Baylee Barker controlled the opening draw, ran down field and scored eleven seconds into the game. Eighteen seconds later, Payton Bennett did the same thing, giving the Lynx a 2-0 lead 30 seconds into the game. Rhodes would add six more goals in the quarter, courtesy of Bennett again, Julia Dalessandro, Chloe Parker, Aidan Pike and Barker twice more. Emily Bruner picked up three assists in the quarter.

Avery Burke delivered the ninth goal of the day in the first minute of the second period. Oglethorpe was able to get on the board moments later when Kaitlynn Alford snuck one past Emma Bradley to make it 9-1. All that did was fire up the Lynx offense once more as they netted five more goals before the half, including two more from Bennett, and one from Barker, Bruner and Izzy Parker. The halftime score was 14-1.

Carina Wesker led the offense in the third quarter, scoring two of the Lynx six goals. Bruner again played the role of catalyst, assisting on three of the scores. The Petrels managed to put together a pair of goals within a minute of each other, making it 20-3 at the horn.

The fourth quarter provided a chance for both coaches to clear the bench. In addition to getting playing time, Rhodes was also able to move some players into new positions. Playing in her final regular season home game, defenseman Meagan Weatherly was able to score her first goal of the year in the period. Emily Bruner and Anna Erskine also added goals, leading to the final of 23-4.

The team stats were lopsided in this one as Rhodes out-shot Oglethorpe 53-13, turned it over eleven fewer times (16-27), and forced twelve failed clears.

Bruner led the team in points with nine on two goals and seven assists. Barker surpassed the 50 goal mark for the season by finding the net five times. Bennett added five goals and three assists as well.

The Lynx have one final regular season game, at Berry, on Saturday, April 23. Faceoff is set for 11:00 am eastern.
