MOUNT BERRY, Ga. (April 15, 2022) - The vibes were good on Friday for the Rhodes Lynx as they capped yet another impressive run through the SAA regular season schedule. Rhodes defeated the Berry Vikings 24-3 on Friday morning, marking the fifth straight season of not losing a regular season conference game. The Lynx now stand at 12-3 overall heading into the SAA tournament.
Rhodes dominated from the jump, scoring their first goal just one minute into the game on a
Baylee Barker free position attempt. They added a second score a minute later when
Avery Burke found the net off a
Payton Bennett feed. The offensive barrage would continue, with the Lynx holding a 10-1 lead by the end of the first quarter. Other goal scorers included Bennett (twice),
Chloe Parker (twice), and
Anna Erskine. Barker had a hat trick by the end of the period. Rhodes took 15 shots n the first with 14 of them being on goal. They also won the draw control battle, forced more turnovers, and had the most successful clear attempts.
Julia Dalessandro hit the net first in the second quarter with a free position attempt. The scoring slowed way down from there as it took almost seven minutes before the Lynx were able to strike again with a Barker goal on a feed from NCAA leader
Emily Bruner. Barker and Burke would each add one more goal in the final two minutes to give Rhodes a 14-2 lead at the break.
Things did not change in the the third period. Rhodes forced a turnover on the opening draw, which led to an open look for
Aidan Pike, who cashed in for the first score of the third. Minutes later, Erskine and Bruner scored on back-to-back possessions to make it 17-2. Rhodes would add six more goals before the end of the quarter, including man-down efforts from both Barker and
Carina Wesker.
Both teams focused on running out the clock in the fourth. Rhodes did score once, with
Madison Recker finding the back of the net on a free-position attempt. Berry added one goal as well, creating the final score of 24-3.
Barker led the offense with seven total goals, bringing her season total to 58. Eleven different Lynx scored a goal, with seven players scoring twice or more.
Emma Bradley didn't see many shots today, but did manage to save four of them for a .667% on the way to her 12th win of the year.
Rhodes will host the SAA tournament, which begins on Friday, April 22. the full schedule is yet to be determined as the remaining teams need to finish the weekend for seeding purposes.
