MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (April 29, 2022) - For the second time in six days, the Rhodes Lynx defeated the Birmingham-Southern Panthers. The win for Rhodes, who came into the SAA tournament as the three seed, moves them to 14-5 on the year. It is the team's fourth straight win.
The two teams both started quickly on different courts. The Panthers swept line one doubles 8-0, but the Lynx returned the favor when
Kate McGough and
Julia Darkey shut out their opponents 8-0 as well. The rubber match went to Rhodes as well as
Emily Holderness and
Lea Letourneau outlasted Jenna Prater and Sarah Rushing 8-4.
The singles courts all went in the favor of the Lynx. The first three matches to finish were one, five, and six. On the featured court,
Esme Benjamin dispatched Maddi Stewart 6-0, 6-2. On the fifth court,
Emma McHale won her match 6-2, 6-0. The Lynx then clinched the win when
Julia Darkey disposed of Anna Cate Weeks 6-0, 6-1. The three other courts would not affect the final outcome, so they were called early to keep the tournament bracket moving.
Rhodes will line up against the #2 seed Berry Vikings on Saturday at 2:00 pm. The winner will advance to the SAA Champinship on Sunday.
