ATLANTA, Ga. (April 25, 2022) - The Southern Athletic Association sports information directors have voted Rhodes freshman catcher
Malcolm Rohlfing the baseball player of the week for games played April 18-24.
Rohlfing had a big impact during Rhodes final week of the regular season. In a Tuesday single-game matchup at #4 LaGrange, he entered the game as a defensive replacement in the sixth inning. His first at bat came in the sixth, where he led off the inning with a single, and eventually came around to score the game-tying run. One inning later, he delivered a sac fly to center that scored
Kofi Whitehead to give Rhodes an 8-6 lead, which would end up as a 9-6 upset win for the Lynx.Â
In the weekend series versus Hendrix, Rohlfing saw action in two of three games. He mashed in both. In game one, he went 3-3 at the plate with a pair of doubles, and was also hit by a pitch. He drove in three of the Lynx' eight runs in the game. In Sunday's win, Rohlfing played a key role. He went 2-4 at the plate, including an RBI single in the second, and massive two-run home run in the fourth that gave Rhodes their first lead of the game. He came through a third time in the fifth with a sac bunt that scored
Gunnar Vachris, giving him four RBI for the game.Â
Rhodes will enter the SAA Tournament as the #3 seed. They open postseason play on Thursday against #6 Millsaps on the campus of Berry College. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm EST in the double-elimination tournament.Â
