Baseball Splits Doubleheader With Maryville

Game Recap: Rhodes vs. Maryville College

In a day of dramatic scoring swings and starkly different pitching narratives, the Rhodes College baseball team split a doubleheader against Maryville on April 14, 2026, at Scotland Yard. After a dominant 21-7 offensive explosion in the series opener, the Lynx fell in a narrow 2-1 pitchers' duel to close out the day.

Game 1 Recap

The Lynx showcased resilience and offensive firepower in the first contest, overcoming an early 5-1 deficit to score 20 runs over the final seven innings.

Key Performances
Brad Larson spearheaded the attack, going 4-for-6 at the plate while scoring five runs and driving in three RBIs. His performance was highlighted by a triple down the right-field line that ignited a three-run fourth inning. Corbin Martens provided the power, finishing 3-for-5 with a three-run home run in the fifth inning and a total of three RBIs. Austin Smith and Ben Daniel also fueled the hit parade, combining for six hits and seven RBIs to keep the pressure on the Maryville pitching staff. On the mound, Ryan Fallmann earned the win (3-0) with a strong relief appearance, throwing 3.1 innings, allowing just one run, and striking out four after a rocky start for the Lynx.

Game Highlights
Rhodes trailed early after Maryville struck for five runs in the bottom of the first, but the Lynx responded by tying the game in the third. They took the lead for good in the fourth behind a two-RBI double from Ben Daniel. The decisive stretch came in the fifth inning, when Rhodes erupted for six runs, capped by Martens' home run, to put the game out of reach.

Game 2 Recap

The nightcap was the opposite of the opener, as both teams' bats were silenced in a tightly contested 2-1 loss for the Lynx.

Key Performances
Cooper Angilly provided the lone offensive highlight for Rhodes, launching a solo home run to left field in the fourth inning to briefly tie the game. Sam Reardon added a double, one of only two hits Rhodes recorded. Starting pitcher Nathan Shumway delivered a strong outing, pitching 5.0 innings and allowing only one earned run while keeping the Lynx within striking distance.

Game Highlights
Maryville took an early 1-0 lead in the first, which held until Angilly's home run in the fourth. The deciding moment came in the bottom of the sixth, when Maryville capitalized on a Rhodes error to score the go-ahead run. Despite getting a runner on in the eighth, the Lynx were unable to find the equalizer.

Up Next: Rhodes at Millsaps College

Rhodes will look to carry momentum from its explosive offensive performance into a key three-game conference series at Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi. The series begins with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 18, at 12:00 PM, followed by the finale on Sunday, April 19, at 12:00 PM. With the Lynx sitting near the top of the SAA standings, the matchup holds important postseason implications as the regular season winds down.
