DANVILLE, Ken. (April 2, 2022) - The Rhodes Lynx remain undefeated in SAA conference play following their 23-7 win over the Centre Colonels on Saturday morning. The Lynx now sit at 10-3 overall on the season, and 4-0 against SAA opponents.
The script for this match was similar to every other SAA game that Rhodes has played in this season. It took a little longer that usual for the Lynx to get on the board, but
Baylee Barker scored the first goal of the game a little over three minutes into the game on a feed from
Emily Bruner. That would spark an onslaught of offense as Rhodes scored eleven total goals in the first period.Barker led the way with four, and was joined by
Payton Bennett with two,
Avery Burke with two, and singles from
Aidan Pike,
Carina Wesker and
Chloe Parker.
Bennett led off the second with a goal as well, but Centre showed some fight by scoring the next four goals of the game. Rhodes was able to find the net three more times before the half was over, including a pair from Burke. The score at the half read 15-4.
The third period was the lowest scoring of all the quarters, with only four goals being scored. Bennett added another one to her total, as did Parker and Pike. Centre scored once, making it 18-5 after three.
With only a few games remaining in the regular season, Barker is chasing a scoring title and her second straight SAA conference player of the year award. She added ot her stat totals in the fourth quarter a pair of goals off assists from Bruner and Bennett, giving her seven on the day. The game was well out of hand at the start of the quarter, and when all was said and done, Rhodes had claimed a 23-7 victory.
The Lynx dominated virtually every stat category. They outshot the Colonels 41-13, turned the ball over less (17-20), and scooped 24 groundballs compared to Centre's 18. Seven different Lynx scored in this one, including five players with multiple goals.
Emily Bruner tied the school record for assists in a game with nine, a mark she set just a few weeks ago. She is the current NCAA leader in assists.
Next up for the Lynx is their final home game of the season. The team will celebrate the senior players before taking on Oglethorpe at Mason Field on Saturday, April 9. Faceoff is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
