Bruner Leads Lynx in Rout of Yeo

Rhodes defeated Oberlin 22-8 on Sunday afternoon

SEWANEE, Tenn. (March 6, 2022) - Rhodes capped off a huge weekend with their second straight 20+ goal game, defeating the Oberlin Yeowomen 22-8 on Sunday on the campus of Sewanee. With the win, Rhodes moves to 4-2 (1-0 SAA) on the year, while Oberlin falls to 2-1.

It seemed that the Lynx might be in for a fight in the opening minutes of the first quarter. It took four minutes for Rhodes to get on the board, with Baylee Barker and Avery Burke scoring just twenty-two seconds apart. Oberlin scored on the next possession, cutting the lead in half. That goal woke up the offensive giant that is the Lynx as they would go on to net seven more goals in the period, including three more from Barker. At the end of one, they led 9-2.

Rhodes would then shut out the Yeowomen in the second quarter while scoring six more times. Aidan Pike, Emily Bruner, Izzy Parker, Carina Wesker, Payton Bennett, and Barker again found the net. Emma BRadley only saw two shots come her way in the second, both of which were saved.

The onslaught continued in the third as Rhodes scored four more unanswered, including a man-down goal from Anna Erskine. The Yeo managed to get one back around the 5:30 mark, but Pike was able to equalize minutes later to give the Lynx a 20-3 lead heading into the final frame.

The fourth quarter saw mass substitutions on both sides. Oberlin made the score respectable by finding the net five times against two goals from Rhodes, courtesy of Erskine and Sophia Rose. At the final horn, the score was 22-8.

Emily Bruner was fantastic as the facilitator of the offense, dishing out eight assists in addition to her goal. Barker led the scoring with five goals, moving her up to 18 in six games. Pike, Wesker, Burke, Bennett and Erskine all had multiple goals in the game as well. Rhodes outscored their opponents 43-10 over the weekend.

Next on the schedule is a home match against conference foe Hendrix. Faceoff is scheduled for 4:00 pm central at Mason Field.
