MEMPHIS, Tenn. (March 27, 2022) - Rhodes continued their domination of SAA women's lacrosse, securing a 20-6 win over the visiting Sewanee Tigers on Sunday afternoon. The win moves Rhodes to 9-3 (3-0 SAA) on the season.
Rhodes jumped out to a 3-0 lead within the first 150 seconds of the game thanks to goals from
Avery Burke and two from
Payton Bennett. After Sewanee got one back, the Lynx responded with two from
Baylee Barker and
Chloe Parker. A penalty on Rhodes left them in a man-down situation, and the Tigers took advantage with their second goal of the game to cut the lead to 5-2.
Julia Dalessandro and Barker again found the net to end the first quarter up 7-2.
The second quarter spelled doom for Sewanee as the Lynx controlled the entire quarter. The Lynx outshot the Tigers 14-2, and scored seven goals in the process. Rhodes also had more groundballs, more draw controls, forced seven turnovers, and caused Sewanee to fail four of seven clear attempts. The score was 14-2 at the half.
Rhodes added five more unanswered goals in the third as they continued to control the pace of play.
Emily Bruner,
Avery Burke,
Chloe Parker,
Anna Erskine, and Dalessandro all added to their goal total in period three.
After Erskine added her third goal of the game in a man-up situation early in the fourth, Rhodes took their foot off the gas and focused on getting playing time for the rest of the roster. Sewanee made the score respectable by scoring four times in the final frame, but it would not be enough as they fell 20-6.
Bruner, Bennett, and Parker each recorded four points to lead the Lynx attack. Nine different Lynx scored a goal in this one, including multiple goals from seven players. Bruner added three assists to her SAA-best total.
Emma Bradley picked up the win with five saves. Freshman
Olivia Wood also saw ten minutes in goal, stopping four shots of her own.
Next up for Rhodes is a trip to Kentucky. The Lynx will take on the Centre Colonels on Saturday, April 2 at 11:00 am EST.
