Lynx Sweep Weekend with Dominant Win

Rhodes defeated Illinois Wesleyan 18-5 on Sunday afternoon

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (February 27, 2022) - Rhodes picked up their second win of the weekend in blowout fashion, outscoring the Illinois Wesleyan Titans 18-5 on Sunday afternoon at Mason Field. The win moves Rhodes to 2-1 on the season, while Illinois Wesleyan falls to 0-2.

Coming off an overtime thriller on Friday against Colorado College, Rhodes put together their best quarter of the young season in the first. Four minutes into the game they held a 5-0 lead, highlighted by two goals each from Baylee Barker and Payton Bennett. By the time the first horn sounded, the score was 10-0 with Chloe Parker adding two, Barker picking up a third goal, and Avery Burke, Julia Dalessandro, and Molly Martiner adding one each.

After Avery Burke added two goals to start the second quarter, the Titans finally got on the board with a netter from Cassandra Jones. Madison Recker added one more for Rhodes before the half, giving them a 13-1 lead at the break.

The first nine minutes of the third quarter were uneventful, until Landry Elliott added another goal to the IWU total. Molly Heidrick and Maisie Arlotto each found the back of the net shortly after, making it 15-2 heading into the fourth.

Each team scored three times in the fourth, including man up goals for Izzy Parker and Hannah Trousdale. The final tally was 18-5 in favor of the Lynx.

A total of 13 Lynx scored tallied at least one point in the match, eight of which had at least two. Heidrick led the way with four (one goal, three assists) while Avery Burke, Emily Bruner, and Baylee Barker each had three.

Next up for Rhodes is another home matchup on Wednesday. The Lynx will host Mary Washington at Mason Field, with faceoff scheduled for 3:00 pm central.
