UAH Charges Past Lynx

Alabama Huntsville defeated Rhodes 20-11 on Friday evening

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (February 18, 2022) - A last-minute schedule change before the season took the Rhodes Lynx to Hunstville on Friday night to battle it out with the Division II UAH Chargers. The Lynx would ultimately fall 20-11 in their season debut, making their record 0-1 on the year.

The scoring came early and often in this one as the two teams combined for more than 30 goals. The Chargers were on the board within a minute of the first whistle when Isadora Springer found the back of the net. Rhodes was quick to respond two minutes later when Emily Bruner cashed in on a free position opportunity to tie things up. The Lynx would then take a 2-1 lead when Baylee Barker, the reigning SAA Player of the Year, scooped a groundball and fired it into the net. The momentum was shortlived when UAH scored three times in two minutes to stake a 4-2 lead that they would carry into the second quarter.

The Chargers quickly ballooned the lead to 7-2 with three more goals to start the second. Undeterred, Rhodes fought back and got the three goals back. First up was Payton Bennett, who connected in a man-up situation. A minute later Barker sent a laser past the UAH goalie for her second of the night. Finally, Chloe Parker was able to fire one between the pipes off a nice feed from Maisie Arlotto to make it 7-5 at the half.

Rhodes carried the momentum into the third quarter, and tied things up at seven with goals from Barker and Bennett. After each team traded goals to tie things up at eight, the Chargers connected on six unanswered goals to take a 14-8 lead into the final frame. They added three more goals in the first five minutes giving them a 17-8 lead. Rhodes never gave up, and managed to score three times with Carina Wesker and Aidan Pike twice finding the net. It was too little, too late though as UAH took the win 20-11.

Ten different Lynx recorded at least one point, with Barker's three (all goals) leading the way. Emma Bradley manned the pipes for the entire game, stopping 15 shots in the loss.

Rhodes will have a week to shake this one off before they host their first home game of the season On Friday, February 25, the Lnx will welcome Colorado College to Mason Field with faceoff scheduled for 3:00 pm.
