NEW ORLEANS, La. (January 27, 2022) - The US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association released its list of academic honors on Thursday for all levels of NCAA competition. Both the men's and women's cross country teams from Rhodes were recognized, along with individuals from each squad.
In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction,
student athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-25 percent of their respective regional championship meet. In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction,
teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.1 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period, among other qualifiers.

On the women's side, two Lynx were recognized for their individual efforts. Samantha Withers and
Hannah Jane Miller finished in 29th and 30th place, respectively, out of 163 participants in the women's 6K at the NCAA South Regional back in November. Their performance helped Rhodes finish fifth in the field of 24. The Rhodes team earned the All-Academic Team Award as well. The Lynx carded an impressive cumulative GPA of 3.71 for the fall semester.
For the men,
Jared Briant and
Ben Hazelwood took home individual honors. At the same NCAA Regional in the men's 8K, both runners placed in the Top 10 with Briant securing sixth and Hazelwood finishing ninth. Rhodes was one of three teams to place two runners in the Top 10, leading to a team finish of seventh. The men's team also earned Academic Team recognition with a cumulative GPA of 3.53.
