Bennett Tallies 100th Career Goal in 27-7 Victory at Oglethorpe

Atlanta, Ga. - Rhodes College women's lacrosse remains undefeated after a 27-7 victory against the Oglethorpe University Stormy Petrels Saturday. The win takes Rhodes to 9-0 on the season. The Lynx have yet to lose to a conference opponent during head coach Meghan Keelan's tenure, who is now in her fifth season at the helm. Rhodes' last SAA loss was to Centre back in 2016.

The Stormy Petrels scored first as the game opened to a 3-3 tie. Following that, the Lynx scored 23 straight goals to take a 26-3 lead with 17 minutes still to play. Oglethorpe finished the game on a 4-1 run.

Several big events happened during the game. First, junior Payton Bennett totaled nine points in the win, which included six goals and three assists. Bennett's sixth goal, which opened scoring in the second half and gave Rhodes a 21-3 lead, was the 100th in her career. She was assisted by fellow junior Baylee Barker, who also scored six goals and added five assists to total 11 points. Four of her assists came in the second half and her final one came on Rhodes' last goal, tying Rhodes' record for most points scored in a single game. Barker also added eight draw controls to her totals.

Carina Wesker was second on the team with a career-high seven draw controls. She also tallied three goals while first year Avery Burke tallied a career-high five goals and Emily Bruner added six points which included five assists.

Rhodes will host Berry College next weekend with a game at noon Saturday, followed by a non-conference contest at 11 a.m. on Sunday, April 11. The Lynx will honor three outgoing seniors prior to Saturday's first draw.
