Rome, Ga. - The No. 2-seeded Rhodes College Lynx fell 10-0 to the No. 3-seeded Birmingham-Southern in round one of the 2021 Southern Athletic Association Baseball Tournament.
The Panthers hit three home runs in the game, accounting for seven of their 10 runs which included a grand slam in the eighth inning. BSC hit a two-run bomb in the first inning before opening the second with a leadoff homer. Five batters later and the Panthers took a 4-0 lead on a sac fly to right field.
Rhodes kept BSC from scoring until the eighth inning's grand slam. During the seventh inning,
Chayton Gray picked off a Panther for the second out.
Rhodes' offense struggled against BSC's Andy Hammond who earned the complete-game shutout allowing just three hits with 10 strikeouts.
Wood Kimbrough finished the game 2-for-4 while
John McNair also earned a hit.
Dante Messina was stranded on base three times and Gray and starter
Nick Ferazzi combined for seven strikeouts.
Rhodes will now fight to keep their season alive as they take on host, No. 1-seeded and No. 13-ranked Berry College at 3:30 p.m. ET Friday.
