Rome, Ga. - Rhodes baseball rebounded from a three-hit game to open the 2021 SAA Tournament with 13 hits in their elimination game, but it wasn't enough as the Berry College Vikings outlasted the Lynx 9-7 with 15 hits.
Rhodes struck first after
John McNair homered to right field in the second inning. The Lynx then took advantage of a Berry error and went up 3-0 in the third inning, but the Vikings scored three runs in the bottom half of the inning after a two-RBI double and a sac fly.
Will Heurtin doubled in
Bryce Anderson to tie the game in the fourth before
Mitchell O'Berry singled in Heurtin to give the Lynx the advantage once more.Â
Berry scored three in the bottom of the fourth before
Peter York hit a sac fly to pull Rhodes within one (6-5) in the sixth. In the bottom of the sixth, Berry scored two runs before crossing their ninth of the game on a groundout in the eighth. Â
Rhodes trailed 9-6 before they opened the ninth inning with two singles. McNair scored
Chris Penna on a fielder's choice before Heurtin singled in
Josh Esclamado to pull the Lynx within two. With two outs, Rhodes ran out of innings after Berry tallied a groundout.Â
Bryce Anderson went 3-for-5 in the game while McNair and Heurtin tallied two hits.
Rhodes finishes the season with an 18-14 overall record. Fans should be on the lookout for all-conference announcements coming next week.
